Title: Donating question
Post by: Tidus on April 17, 2011, 12:04:44 PM
Alright so I remembered hearing that visa gift cards can work for donating, but was wondering how to do it. I checked other topics about it, but they didn't seem to answer my question. If I remember correctly, the cards don't come with a name or a billing address attached to them, so how do I fill out those sections when donating? Would I need a paypal account in order to use one? If anyone can answer this for me, I'd appreciate it, just trying to make sure it'll work before I go out and get one.

I used a Vanilla Visa Prepaid Gift Card. These ones are special since the site that they're used on to check balances and such serves as a billing address, so they work with PayPal!

I bought the card, linked it with paypal, did the billing address thing (tell me if I need to clarify, its raising the limit on your account, they charge you like 3.00 dollars and with a code, you give them the code, and you get 3.00 dollars back.) and then I donated the money and sent the e-mail. And bam! Somehow Stick Online appeared on my computer. ;)

I am willing to help you with this if you have any questions. I am not completely sure if it works on all Visa Gift Cards, but the "Vanilla" kind seemed to work for me.

The site mentioned: https://www.vanillavisa.com/product.html
I bought my card at a 7/11. :P

Did you need a paypal account to do that?

Yes, I believe that is the only payment Meiun takes, unless otherwise contacted through the e-mail (http://www.stick-online.com/images/email.png). If you're wondering about age, I did it when I was 14. Although I don't know yours, so I don't think age should make a difference.

Answer: Yes, I did use a Paypal account.

Edit: I don't think you need one though, if you look at the donation page, there is a option if you do not have a paypal account. It is to the left of the "login box" for if you have a PayPal account.

Here is a picture:

That takes you to a page where you can fill out all the details from your gift card. So try that I guess.

I have donated before without an account, and know you can, but it was with a credit card. The thing I am confused about is if I donate with a gift card, what do I fill into the name and billing address box's since there are none on the card.

Oh, just use your name, and your address. (Zip code, street, state, ect)

This won't matter but is still required as you aren't actually shipped anything. :P

Soo I can just type in my name and such even though it's not registered to the card, and it'll work fine?

Ohhhh, I assumed you had the card already, my bad! Might I ask why you can't get a PayPal account? I'm quite understandable. If nothing is stopping you, it's not that hard.

As for if it works or not, I don't want to say that I am 100% sure it will work since I don't want to be the one to blame. Sometimes you just gotta' take a chance, either that or think of a other option. (As little as there may be)

Perhaps someone else can confirm that it will work? If you buy one, and it doesn't work, you can always buy something else that you've wanted perhaps. That would be probably worst-case scenario.

Don't you need to register a credit card to the account when you make it?

Nope you just give your name, and address if I remember correctly. You don't put in the card info until you go to make the donation..

Alright so they charged the money, but how do I get the code? Can I get it off of the Vanilla Visa website?

EDIT: I'm fairly sure it is, so my next question is, how long did it take you for it to show up on it? (I'm just wondering so I can stop checking every 10 mins :P)

You do get it off the website, I can't remember specifically where, transactions maybe? I don't know the exact time. I remember it being fairly quick though for me. Try to look for an area of the site where it shows "Transactions" or "Balance". Something similar.

PayPal gives back the money if you don't respond in a certain amount of time :P
