Hey don't blame me if this is a totally crap idea. lol
My suggestion is items you can create.
For example, theres 3 items to make this weapon, a handle, a blade and the (**something**).
One of the items is in the shop for a very large amount of money (***100k?)
and the other two items are quite rare drops from monsters.
One good thing about this would be it would be a goal for you to get and actually use money for.
Another good thing, if you got these items and made your weapon you would have a really good weapon.
Downside, if someone actually got these weapons it would be a big disadvantage to everyone else, but hey SO2 theres pleanty of weapons like this.
This idea would turn SO more into an RPG game type. Yeah but thats my idea.
Constuctive criticism is welcome. please dont just yell at me if this is a crap idea, if you have nothing good or constuctive to say then dont say it at all.
** I really didn't know what to put here so I just put that instead.
*** In the end all prices are for Meiun to decide. thats just my recomendation

Not just SO2... EVERY MMO IN EXISTANCE HAS OVERPOWERED ENDGAME WEAPONS.
Plus, you don't know how amazingly good the short sword is, considering how easy it is to get.

I mean that it's dropped by a lot of the easy enemies and is stronger, either stam-wise and/or even attack-wise, than a lot of the weapons that the harder enemies drop (like scythe and katana.)
This has been suggested multiple times already. It also doesn't help that you started your post out as:

I wish people would stop right there...
The idea itself isn't bad. Crafting has been suggest numerous times, and I think it would make a perfect addition to the SO world.
I think the idea would work, but limiting it to weapons would dumb down the concept. Instead of specific materials that only make one certain item, there should be a bunch of generic materials that can be used to create all sorts of objects - hats, weapons, potions, etc. And what do you know? Add a trade system, and you've got a perfectly good ingame economy, adding a whole new level of depth to the game.

Nah man, I really wouldn't like to get a once and a life time drop from a Sand Golem or DS, or some rare monster and only get a piece of the rare weapon/hat, that would really piss me off. Its kinda like "OMFG I just got a Inferno Sword Handle!! Now what possible use could come out of having just the handle?"

I know exactly where you're going with this, and I propose something that can make it easily fixed for both parties:
Put simply: The rare drop from the boss monster is the hardest item to get in order to make something.
Let's say you want to make an Inferno Sword, and it requires:
1 - Fireball
1 - Giant Blade
1 - Sword Hilt
So, say you kill a Dark Sage and it drops this Fireball item. You hold onto that because you know it's worth some gooood money. Now, say, all you need is the giant blade and the sword hilt. Well, say that the sword hilt is also used in making short swords and katanas and such, so you can easily find it off of, say, a rock demon. And then finally the giant blade is a component in a few weapons like Great Sword, Slasher, and, yes, the Inferno Sword.
So once you get the Fireball from the Dark Sage, you don't have the Inferno Sword, true, but you do have the hardest component on it to get, and so rather than saying "Yay, I got... what do I do with this?", you can say "Yay, I got the item needed to make the IS, all I need to do is go kill... a couple rock beasts now."

Stopped reading after this, if its crap don't suggest it.
I'd like it if you could combine 2 hats (two weapons might be too overpowering) by just dragging one on top of another or by some sort of skill =P Like the Frog hat and the Bandit Cover for an AGI-boosting hat

What would be the minimum requirements to play SO on my computer?
i7 core running at 3.6 ghz 16gb ram minimum with at least 2 x ATI Radeon HD 4870. Best played with full surround sound and a 30" widescreen moniter.

Crafting doesn't belong in SO.
Items always seemed to be like trophies to me in SO2, I just can't see crafting in SO.

It's just that reason why being able to craft items might appease the general population. The problem is, many people go for ages without certain items, even after they put well over the amount of effort others did. This causes jealously, which soon leads to anger, which as we all know leads to the dark side. I think adding a certain guarantee that you will get items, perhaps not the specific rare ones you desire, but ones that can at least let you compete with them without being overwhelmed by their stats, would be a great way to help this problem.
For example, say a new player wants a short sword. They spend hours and hours at the bandits and it just isn't their lucky day. With all the money they've just gained farming for that short sword, perhaps they could go craft a less advanced version of it. With a stick from a blob in hand, they could go to the store, click on an alternate tab, and for a sum of money + the stick, they could craft a wooden sword. Now, this isn't the Best example, as they could instead just keep saving up that money until they can buy a short sword, but just pretend the short swords aren't sold in the store for a moment for the sake of it being an example. Now this player has a wooden sword, with only a small decrease in stats from the actual thing, and with it can probably get the real thing much faster than he was while beating on bandits with a stick.
How 'bout an example that everyone could agree on. Say you've maxed out your inventory limit with rare items and collectible event items, and a new item is added to the game. Wouldn't it be nice to save some space by going over to the store's combining tab, inserting all 3 of those candy canes that are just collecting dust and wasting space, and create a rainbow candy cane? Not only does this give you two slots, but you get to show off that you collected all 3 of your canes without pulling them out one at a time. Or you could combine your jacko and punkin hat for a jack hat with a red glare in its eyes.
My point being to these examples, is that crafting doesn't have to mean the ability to craft items that spawn normally. It doesn't have to replace the effort required to get items, only reward those unlucky enough not to get them.
Does the idea of crafting seem at all possible to you now?
Black smithing in SO.. Never thought of that. Personally I think its a cool idea. If it would work is the problem. Theres always some BS reason we can't have nice things.
@ Pat: I didn't steal it, I found it to be so hilarious, that it must be siggy'd
@ Rayu: I agree with 110%
I never thought anything I would ever say would be sig worthy. This is a proud day.
i dont see why people think this is a crap idea.. it has thought involved and would be great to see in the game..
I don't think anyone said it was crap. It's a good idea. It's just been suggested a lot. On the other hand, some people just don't like the idea of having item crafting in SO. Which is somewhat reasonable.
