Item Roulette

The basic idea, is to put in a few coins, the more coins, the more chance of winning a rare item. Super Smash Bros Melee trophy style.

Nice. Not a bad idea. They have a similar thing in some other RPG's I've played. Most notably in Diablo they have the vendor with different items that you don't know the quality of the item before hand (you just know if it's a sword, gloves, helmet, etc). The difference is it's just a flat cost (quite expensive) for each purchase and you have whatever chance to get varying quality of items.

Hm. I suppose that wouldn't be such a bad idea, and it'd give people a use for their money. There should be some sort of catch to it, though, so it's not exploitable by people with insane amounts of gold.

We'd have to control it, though, so it doesn't end up like that system in Maplestory - when I played, nearly every single news event was about how they added more items to the "Gachapon". (the item roulette) Believe it or not, there were actually some poor saps who spend tons of real life money for Gachapon tickets trying to get rare items.

I disagree..  If people have "insane amounts of gold" that means they've earned it.  If they have 1 million plus gold and don't have a good item that is in the 'roulette,' they should be able to spend as much as they want trying to get it...

I agree with igufed. Instead of grinding to kill monsters for a chance to get a rare item, you're taking the gold you got from grinding and converting it into a chance to get a rare item. Either way you do it, you're grinding for the same purpose. And because everyone has the ability to use this, at no point is it unfair. It's just as "unfair" when someone else gets a drop from a monster and you don't.

Chaos

I only think it'll be a worthwhile addition once the game has a large amount of items in it.

lol, I found God! He was hiding under a big rock this entire time that lil jokster

I was actually thinking the same thing. This would be a good addition for later in SO3 development.
