So I recently installed openSUSE 11.4 on my laptop as my main Linux distro.  I installed WINE, and decided to test S.O. just to see if it would run.  To my amazement, after updating all the game files, it proceeded to run and was playable.

Here is a picture of S.O. running on openSUSE 11.4 with Wine 1.3.12

Well... Wine is a virtual desktop meant to emulate Windows, correct?

If so, I couldn't imagine why it wouldn't be capable of running SO in the first place. Still cool to see in action though! :)

Last time I tried (which was a few months ago) Stick Online didn't run under Ubuntu.  So I'm not sure if it was Ubuntu, or if they updated WINE with better compatibility.

Also, WINE isn't an emulator, but a compatibility later.  How it works is it proxies Windows function calls to native Unix functions.

Ahh okay. I wasn't sure, so sorry about being mistaken. Well, now SO should run on all platforms, huzzah!

WINE = Wine Is Not an Emulator

I've attempted it in the past with SO several years back without any luck.  I'm glad to see they've finally gotten around to making GM games compatible.

On Ubuntu, at least for me, it says "Unable to load Resources.sor".

Yeah, that's why I wasn't sure if it was just openSUSE or a newer WINE version.  What version of WINE are you running?

Well I was using 1.2.2, and I got it to load but not load Resources.sor.  Then I tried updating and after that, it doesnt even open, it says "unexpected error" or something (I can't recall the exact wording) while on the loading part.  I'm on Ubuntu 10.04.
