My friend is stuck with this rig:
945GM Intel Chipset
2GB RAM
Dual Core 1.6GHz

I was thinking, I want to build him a nice computer that will play games like Minecraft/Call of Duty, and even some BF3, but he isn't really into maxing everything out. He is comfortable with 30-40 FPS.

Would this be good? And feel free to make suggestions.

GT 440 1GB
6GB RAM
i3 Dual Core 2.9GHz

Do you have a rough idea of his budget?

You could look into something like:
- i5 2320
- Radeon 6770 (will dominate the 440 by a long way)
- 4GB of RAM should be fine

Umm, a budget...  hmm. Probably around 200-300$, we are tight on money right now. I already have 6GB DDR3 RAM at the house, and a case.

Well, I'm not all that up to date with prices in other countries, but if prices are similar to Australia then you're going to have a hard time getting something decent for that price. Especially when you take into account the fact that you'll need a motherboard, a hard drive and a power supply.

Turned out, I built a computer with spare parts I found around the house. It runs Minecraft on far.

Geforce 8400 GS 512MB
1.5GB RAM (Yet to be upgraded)
AMD Sempron 3200+ Single Core 1.8GHz
Windows XP Professional

It cost about $30 in all, considering I got the RAM and Screen and stuff for free.

Sounds alright, but you'll definitely want something a bit beefier for MW3 and BF3
