Make it so you don't have to donate to play :D

Hello, this is [BC]//Francis (BassCaptives). I'd like to suggest that you bring it back to the way it was like the Normal server. What I mean by that is that you don't need to donate just to play I was wondering if we can call a vote to make it so it's not donated needed. If you need to donate just to play then not many people will play it.

Server is up as a thank-you note for donors who have generously given money to Meiun for one reason or another. The donor server isn't up as the main game. Meiun is putting most of his efforts toward S.O. v3, and has occasional minor updates to the donor server. However, a rudimentary clan system is coming soon.

The current version of the game was open to the public for free for well over a year. However, as our focus has primarily shifted onto the development of an entirely new vastly improved remake of the game (built from the ground up), the server for the current version is now running primarily as a thank you to our donors (we do still do some occasional updates to it though!). Once this new and improved version is deemed ready, the game will once again be free and open to the public. This is not something that is up for consideration. It is not donor only because that is how we ideally want things to be, or because we are trying to make money off of it. The public/free to all version was taken down because we wanted to shift our focus towards a new, vastly improved remake of the game. Running and managing the currently available version of the game while we did so would have just added a lot of work, all for something that was no longer going to be strongly supported anyways. Therefore, we took it down in order to be able to focus on the future. The donor server was later started as a thank you to all of the people who had been supporting us through donations over the years. Once the new version of the game is released, it will once again be open to the public for free.

Why doesn't he just remove the server entirely like it was originally until SO3 comes out?  That way he doesn't have to waste time/money/effort/bandwidth supporting a server at all!


(Because he wants to thank the people who supported the game, aka, the donors.)

Because managing a community that big and free comes with tons more responsibility, and requires tons more time and effort for all the people involved with running it. Managing only the people who care about the game enough to support it like this in it's hiatus is a much easier (as well as very worthy) way to handle things, as oppose to trying to manage the tens of thousands of random people. Remember, the main reason it was taken down was so we could focus the time and effort we spend on Stick Online towards making the new one rather than managing the old.

Each time someone makes an obvious/already explained topic like this it takes away from time that Meiun could have used to work on the game for version 3 or be used for something productive. If the other 15 people that made topics exactly like this didn't make any progress from asking for the game to be free, it's most likely you won't make any either.
