The Nintendo 3DS is going to be a massive thing, the preorder sales are already outdoing the Wii (which was significantly higher than 360, ps3 and psp).

I for one am going to preorder one within the next few days. Here in Australia it comes out on 31st of March, and Europe and America get it a few days earlier, and them lucky guys in Japan get it in a couple of days.

Here are the games that'll be available in Australia on Launch Day:

  • Resident Evil?: The Mercenaries 3D
  • The Sims? 3
  • PES 2011 3D
  • LEGO? Star Wars? III: The Clone Wars
  • LEGO? Pirates of the Caribbean: The Video Game
  • Ridge Racer?3D
  • Super Monkey Ball? 3D
  • Crush? 3D
  • Thor?: God of Thunder
  • Samurai Warriors: Chronicles
  • DEAD OR ALIVE? Dimensions
  • Tom Clancy?s? Ghost Recon? Shadow Wars
  • Tom Clancy?s Splinter Cell ? 3D
  • Rayman? 3D
  • Asphalt? 3D
  • Combat of Giants? Dinosaurs 3D
  • James Noir?s Hollywood Crimes?
  • Driver? Renegade
  • Puzzle Bobble Universe?
  • Rabbids? 3D

America will also have Steel Diver and PilotWings Resort on release day.
Soon After we'll also be Seeing MarioKart 3DS, Starfox 64, And Zelda OoT 3D.

Who else is getting one and what are your thoughts?

My thoughts are that the 3ds is gonna kick ass... a year from now. The system itself is awesome, with some really creative functionality, but the starting line-up sucks and it's going to be a while before owners get any amazing titles. Another huge disappointment is it's battery life. What was it? 3 hours? That's much too short for a portable. A year from now, they'll come out with an updated version of the 3ds to fix the battery life, and by that time it'll have an amazing assortment of games. Until then, I'll pass.

Nintendo reckon 3-5 hours with everything turned on max (brightness, 3D, wireless, streetpass etc.) some places reckon that without all that, you could be getting 7-8 hours, or up to 12 with everything on low and the 3D turned off.

Sounds like plenty to me. I do agree that the launch lineup looks a bit weak, but the system overall looks sweet. I've always enjoyed 3D movies, so the idea of having a handheld 3D gaming syste without the glasses is definitely something I will want to try out. Unfortunately, I don't think I'm gonna have enough spare cash to get one anytime soon.

Yeah, I doubt that I'll play it for 3 hours and not have a chance to charge it (taking into account I'll get a char charger and stuff.)
And yes, unfortunately it is a touch on the expensive side, though thankfully I've kept a bit of money aside for a few months.
But to be completely honest I think it's gonna be awesome, sure there's only a couple of good launch games, but before E3 we can expect Paper Mario, Mario Kart, Zelda OoT: 3D, Starfox 64 and more. So I don't think there's much to worry about.

Do a barrel roll Starfox? As in a legit port of Starfox from the N64? I might just have to reconsider buying this in the future.

I'll definably wait before purchasing this, probably when the amount of games is a lot bigger.

I'm excited about Paper Mario 3DS, by the way. Looks awesome.

Yep, they basically just updated the graphics heaps, made it 3D, and fixed bugs and whatnot, I dunno if they added stuff though.

Matty_Richo

Well,
Today I went to a 3DS expo and played a number of games and tried out the features and whatnot, and I am very glad to say that the 3DS is AWESOME!
The games I tried were, Face Raiders (Built in), Zelda OoT, Pilotwings Resort, Kid Icarus: Uprising, Steel Diver, Resident Evil, Street Fighter IV 3D, Augmented Reality Games, Plus the Camera and other built in features.
The best were Zelda and Steel Diver.
And the 3D is amazing. And the Hardware is virtually perfect.

Awesome :P Good to hear. I'm anxious to see it for myself some time.

Cactuscat222

A bit of a bump, but it is relevant now since it is released (at least for me in the USA).

I randomly picked one up, been having a ton of fun messing with the built in games and 3D. It really is quite cool. Though, not sure how much use it is going to get right now until some better games come out, but I'm excited. I didn't realize how small it is (roughly the same size as the DS Lite). The battery has been really good for me too.

Anyone else get one? Anyone want to trade friend codes? :P

Got mine Sunday, on release day :3  Indeed, the built-in stuff is amusing to play with, and I got Sims 3 just so I had something to play until some of the more desirable games start coming out (Kingdom Hearts, Ocarina of Time, Animal Crossing, Professor Layton)

OMG, i MUST get one now. Love that series :3

Matty_Richo

Yep, I'll be picking mine up tomorrow (launch day in Australia) and I'll probably pick up a copy of Rabbids 3D since the Australian launch line up ain't that great, and just to play something until games like Super Mario 3D, Animal Crossing, Professor Layton, Lego Pirates etc... come out.

It's been released? Yay! :D

...But my dad discovered a problem with the 3DS. If you hold it at a certain position, 3D won't work. Oh well, I expected problems with the first release.

I'll wait a year until I get the 3DS, letting the games stock up.
