It's been released? Yay! :D

...But my dad discovered a problem with the 3DS. If you hold it at a certain position, 3D won't work. Oh well, I expected problems with the first release.

I'll wait a year until I get the 3DS, letting the games stock up.

Uh....duh?  It's more like you have to hold it at a certain position to make 3D WORK.  That's just how stereoscopic 3d works.  :/  No upgraded release of the 3DS is going to change the laws of light and physics.

The unfortunate thing I see happening is now that Nintendo discovered how to implement stereoscopic capable mobile devices, that other companies (e.g. Sony) are going to follow suit and create their own.  Their inevitable release of a 3D capable PSP without glasses will no doubt be released as soon as the 3DS gets a decent line-up of games, and once again, the 3DS will fall to the wayside.

Gotta give it to Nintendo though, once again, they've proven themselves the revolutionary video game company, often setting the standard for capabilities that all other companies must meet and (sadly always) exceed.

I'm not a huge fan of handhelds, but does any of you know if professor layton and ace attorney crossover is coming out for this system? I might borrow it or something, hah.

Chaos

It is coming out for 3DS, yes.  It hasn't been confirmed for coming out anywhere but Japan thus far, though D:

Physics MAY change after 2012 though.

I am going to wait for them to come out with the next version of the 3ds, eg. a 3ds lite or something before I consider buying. I want to give them time to perfect whatever things may initially go wrong with it...since this is such a new concept in the gaming industry.

Physics may change tomorrow.  At least, I have as much evidence (none) to believe it as I do to believe that.

I was under the impression the DS line of handhelds was the most popular (at least in recent years), easily outnumbering the amount of PSP's sold. That was heard second hand though, so I could be sorely mistaken.

@Chaos: Oh man, I had completely forgotten about Animal Crossing and Kingdom Hearts (though I have no idea which storyline it will follow... I thought everything that leads up to Kingdom Hearts 3 was already played out!). Ocarina of Time, Paper Mario, Mario Kart 3DS... we so excited.

Pretty sure that's correct.

I'm going to wait until a couple of months when the game lineup improves, then I'll get one.

No one needs to read an article to give at least 3 reasons, why that will never happen..

I stand corrected.  I guess I was thinking more along the lines of the consoles when it comes to who dominates the market (I've never owned any Nintendo handhelds past the gameboy color).  I have no doubt that just like the Wii did, Nintendo will dominate the handheld market for a long time to come, outselling all other handheld products, but so far as I assumed (don't have proof), the Wii is no longer the best selling console, like it was back in 2007, and I'm positive that we'll see new handhelds in the future that give the 3DS a run for its money.

My post was more along the lines of "Nintendo is always 'the first' to do that", and then every other company eventually gets up to that standard that Nintendo sets, and at least in the console world, once the others meet and exceed that standard, Nintendo is outdated.

Believe you me though, I've always been a supporter of Nintendo, and wish they could step up to be the un-disputed best in the industry, but then reality sets in.

I'm not positive on the details since I havn't checked on this in sometime, but I definitely know that the Wii absolutely dominated the console market for pretty much the entire time it has existed, and I don't think that would have changed too drastically in the last year or so since I checked. Even if other consoles are now selling more, they would have a long way to go to catch up to the Wii in total sales. I'm not as sure about the overall success of the DS, but I know it has also dominated the competition pretty hard.

I am certainly not trying to make any statement that nintendo is has "the best" consoles, but they certainly have the most succesful for the current generation of gaming. I also wouldn't count on the PSP succesor copying the 3D stuff. Sony already has announced the design and features for the "PSP2," and it does not include 3D (although it does have a few other fairly nice features).

venuse

im not sure i might hold off on buying one until dead or alive comes out for it or some other games i might like. metal gear solid snake eater is sure making me interested since it looks like a pretty good port of the ps2 game. also ive never played any of the metal gear games.

I am sort of on the same page as Venuse when it comes to buying one. The system looks great, but I'm not sure I want to fork out $250 for a system when there arn't really any games I want for it at launch. Once they start coming out with some good 1st party games I will almost certainly get one.

All I have to hear is Metal Gear Solid and I'm sold!  Especially the third.  Yep, I am definitely buying one just for that.
