I want to get a new gaming rig for Christmas, and I have picked out this one. It is $1000.

Processor: Intel Core i7 2600 3.4GHz
Windows 7 Pro 64bit OS
Graphics: 1GB Nvidie Geforce GTX 550 Ti (2x DVI What does that mean?)
RAM: 8GB DDR3
HDD: 1TB 7200 RPM

Would you guys get this?

sorry that is alittle overpriced you woul be better off with this desktop from newegg
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883229283

it is basically the same thing but cheaper and a more powerful gpu.
the 550GTX Ti is at best about 5% more powerful then a 5770 but cost $50 more
for that same 50 dollars more you can have the 6850 which will blow the 550gtx ti out of the water

Alright, I will get that one instead, thank you :)

On my current laptop, I play MW3 on 640x480 resolution, low textures, and no AA at about 4-10 FPS. What kind of FPS should I expect on a PC like that one?

lol thats kinda of a silly question but to put it simply. max settings with 4xaa and 16xaf, at 1280 x 1024 res at probably 50+. can probably get that fps at even 1600 x 900 res. bf3 at max

Well when it comes to games if you have an ok cpu and 2 or more gigs of ram it really just comes down to your graphics card(s).

So basically searching your video card name with a popular video game will give you some idea. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j5XUJWx-FfI

Also looking at your card online with your other system specs you will be running the game on high setting fine.

You say that but some gaming pc builders say how many fps that pc will get in big title games. I dont know how truth they are but thats what seems like people care about.

Awesome :) I don't have to play at maximum settings, I have played at low settings my whole life, I am used to it. And anything above 20 FPS is fine in my opinion.

from what i can tell about alot pc gamers, not all, is that they care more about maxing out the graphics while maintain a bare minimum of 30 fps, i personally cant stand 30 fps. while the rich hardcore  pc gamers brag about their builds that can get 60 fps on max settings while cutting others down who cant afford a 500 dollar graphics card. then there are the people with little money for good hardware who feel left out of the loop or even cheated when they purchase a game that wont run well.

im the last one. but anyways that system should kick major ass so now you can rub it in other peoples' faces hahaha

Sorry for the late reply to this topic.

I would suggest building your own PC, there are plenty of Tutorials and you can get a considerably better computer for the same price.

If you are still looking, I would suggest the i5 2500K as it is basically the same as an i7 2600K just without hyperthreading which isn't really utilized in games.

Then have a look at the GTX 560Ti or if you can afford it the 6950 or GTX 570.

Me and my dad are building a rig for Christmas!

GTX 560TI
16GB RAM
i5 Quad Core 3.2GHz
24" LED Screen

Decent? It's made of high-end hardware, it could be called top-notch!
And lol, my 10 year old PC in the basement with integrated GPU, 1gb ram and 1.8ghz cpu can run minecraft at max hahahaha =P. Don't worry about it.
