I would also suggest picking a better colour then that, however it may not go well with the Stick-online palette if you are intending it match. Therefor, I'd just stick with whatever is presented from the frog hat colours, so you seem to be doing fine, I guess.

Rather then using depth by saturation or brightness, try using depth by temperature. It will result in a much more natural look. Purple is usually considered a shadow colour, so you shift the hue closer to that colour when doing the dark shades.

Despite those faults, I think that it is very charming and matches Stick-onlines style very well.
I don't even think he's completed it yet so I'm not going to bother critiquing...but if I were to add one thing to this list....you should make the head more frog-like, and give it a throat. right now the stomach goes all the way up into its top lip. Sadly this might take some effort since you've already begun animating...that's why I usually make a satisfying stand-alone before I begin animation.

Btw that's not his stomach, that's just the underside of the frog....

and yes. It's still not finished yet. Just a sprite sheet for you to manipulate and to show all the stuff.
Also, I need help for a better pixel animating program, that gives off high quality colors. Any suggestions?

the attack should be it shooting its tongue at u. There should be knock-back except that u fly towards the attacker, instead of away, like the frog is pulling you in with its tongue

Yeah, I know you're not done with the Big Frog Boss, but I'll start some critiquing anyway.

Like Delicious said, the anatomy isn't even close to realistic. The head and legs are the most out-of-whack. Alter those to look more like an actual frog. The tone of the green looks a bit too light in my opinion. Maybe make it just a tad darker(and yes, I know it's the same shade as the Frog Hat). The hind legs look very unnatural in mid-jump. The tongue attack animation looks very nice. I also like the croaking of the frog when it's not moving, albeit its mouth should probably move up a bit when croaking.

All in all, it's pretty decent, somewhat suited to SO's style, and I like it. When you're done, I bet it'll be quite a bit better.



And also, what is that weird blue sword by the stick on your unfinished sprite sheet?

EDIT: I'm assuming it's an intended drop or something, just curious.

Here's my scrapped idea for a cactus boss. The venus flytrap.

What would be the minimum requirements to play SO on my computer?
i7 core running at 3.6 ghz 16gb ram minimum with at least 2 x ATI Radeon HD 4870. Best played with full surround sound and a 30" widescreen moniter.

In my opinion, your animation ability is much greater then that of your spriting.. Which isn't a bad thing, since you seem to produce really nice weapon attacks and smooth movement. I hope my criticism is not taken in as anything personal or offensive.


You should really consider working with the main outline, rather then jumping the gun to your shades and animation.. This is why I gave you criticism at that point, since it will be frustrating later on to have to restart what you had finished.
Those circles represent all the wonkey lines. You have 2x lines, and pixels which are out of place. If you zoom in, you should be able to see what I mean..

The shading would be fine to stay the same since you are aiming for the style of Stick-online, however the general shading of SO is really off balance and that alone ruins your sprite..

This is actually helpful, but doesn't help the weirdness of the legs in the air( which I think ma stand out a little).

OH, and for your information I've been spriting on mousepad (the ones on the laptop) for all my sprites.

Glad you had thought so.
You should definitly hook up a mouse to your laptop if any is available.  ;)
I just think that you should get by the idle before continueing to the actual animation. Plenty of the mistakes I had listed were also along the other frames as well too.. The feet placement is correct, it is just how you presented it.

I have a couple fun ideas for drops:

Tongue Whip: A little more range than the ordinary whip, and does slightly more damage, but safe attack speed. Would be thick and look like a frogs tongue. This also fits in great because cacti drop whips. Also while this weapon may not be extremely powerful, if it was a little longer than the whip, it would have slightly more range than the slasher, adding a new aspect to pvp again.

Toad Hat: Gives the exact same jump boost as the frog hat, +1 to agility, and slightly decreases falling speed. (Similar to Disasteroid's tournament crown.) I have 2 ideas for it's looks, it would either look like a meaner frog hat, with warts and darker colors, or I was also thinking it would be fun to have a stab at Mario and have a Toad hat where it is a white mushroom with red spots. Either would be cool, maybe you all have other ideas? This makes a cool new hat for the new boss, without making any other hat with similar abilities worthless. It doesn't give any defense, making the Froggy hat still somewhat valuable stat wise if not for looks. And it doesn't make the regular Frog hat worthless either, because if you want a high jump, but want to fall fast and not spend time in the air, than you can still use it. All at the same time, it gives players a cool new feature to play around with.

And in addition to the 2 above, it would drop the Frog hat and Froggy hat. That makes 4 interesting drops, for an interesting boss.


So those are my drop ideas, what do you all think?

I like the frog whip tongue thing, but I'm not sure about the toad hat (we already have enough variations of the frog hat)
Maybe that blue sword as a major drop, and froggy as a minor drop.
Drops: Tongue whip, Froggy hat, Whip, Aqua Blade, and (unknown hat)
